*2024 Thai Development Award Special Award – Fostering Climate Resilient and Sustainable Future in the Face of Climate Change Challenges
Starbucks Coffee (Thailand)
Starbucks is dedicated to sustainability through its “LITTLE CHOICES. BIG CHANGES”. campaign, aiming to reduce its carbon footprint and encouraging partners to use personal cups at stores. Customers can contribute to significant environmental change by choosing For Here cups when dining in or bringing reusable cups for takeout, receiving 10-baht discount for their efforts.
Since launching in Thailand, customers have helped reduce over 29 million single-use items by choosing personal cups. The “Grounds for Your Garden” program allows customers to collect used coffee grounds, with over 4,000 kilograms distributed in 2023 alone. Starbucks Thailand has partnered with Planet Water Foundation to build five Aqua Towers in Sa Kaeo, providing clean water to 9,000 people since 2020.
Starbucks Thailand also partners with SOS to collect unsold food from Starbucks stores, delivering over 51,600 kilograms of meals to underserved communities since July 2022 and donating 2.5 million baht to the SOS Rescue Kitchen to support food access initiatives.
Suntory Beverage and Food (Thailand) Co., Ltd.
The link between water and climate change is clear. Climate change exacerbates water scarcity and disasters, while water bodies absorb carbon dioxide. In Thailand, the Mizuiku program, originally from Japan, enhances youth knowledge of water conservation. Launched in 2021, it promotes hands-on learning through the ‘Nature Classroom’, focusing on sustainable tourism recovery in Phuket and Rayong.
In 2023, Suntory collaborated with the Department of Climate Change and Environment to scale the program nationally, teaching the significance of water sources across various regions. The One Suntory Mizuiku Program in 2024 mobilized resources and
engaged 500 students and teachers from 30 schools from Rayong and Chonburi in an educational camp. Support of 10,000 baht was provided to each school for water-saving project for impact amplification. Through the program, 37,800 students and 150 teachers from 69 schools learned about water and environmental conservation.
These students are fostered to be “change agents”, promoting sustainable changes in behaviors, practices, and policies within schools and communities.
Thai Union Group Public Company Limited
Shrimp Decarbonization Project
Thai Union’s SeaChange® 2030 initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 42% by 2030. To support this, they launched the Shrimp Decarbonization initiative with The Nature Conservancy and Ahold Delhaize USA, focusing on sustainable aquaculture. A pilot program aims to produce 1,000 metric tons of fully traceable, lower-impact processed shrimp for Chicken of the Sea Frozen Foods, demonstrating the economic benefits of sustainable practices.
Additionally, Thai Union partnered with Chow Energy PCL to promote renewable energy in its shrimp supply chain. This partnership offers shrimp farmers access to solar energy through a Power Purchase Agreement. This partnership provides shrimp farmers access to solar energy at a discounted rate, removing high upfront costs.
Ahold Delhaize brands, such as Food Lion and Hannaford will purchase shrimp from this program. This initiative not only reduces GHG emissions but also enables farmers to benefit from price premiums and improved access to international markets demanding lower carbon shrimp.

Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd.
Chevron Fund for Life: Entrepreneurial Support for Woman Breadwinners
In response to the insurgency in Thailand’s southern border provinces—Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat—where women face violence, trauma, and economic instability, the Chevron Fund for Life project, launched in 2015 by Chevron Thailand and Raks Thai Foundation, aims to improve women’s quality of life by creating a safe environment and assessing the specific needs of each occupational group. The project provided customized support, including funding and equipment, along with training sessions to enhance their marketing and financial management skills. Female leaders act as counselors and facilitators, strengthening connections between the groups, the Chevron Fund for Life project team, and community leaders.
With a budget exceeding 12 million baht, the project has supported over 106 groups, directly benefiting more than 4,666 individuals and indirectly improving the lives of over 28,000 family members. In 2024, the project continues to assess community needs and provide updated training in leadership, marketing, and product development.
Organon
Organon continues to champion equality and empower women through initiatives that prioritize women’s health and gender equality in Thailand. The “We Are Tomorrow” Mural Project, with the U.S. Embassy, the Ministry of Public Health, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, and UN Women, symbolizes a new era of empowerment. Displayed on the U.S. Embassy’s consular section in Bangkok, the mural features powerful women and non-binary individuals, inspired by the artist Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya’s conversations with Thai women and non-binary youth, underscores the commitment to gender equality and women empowerment.
Aligned with its global vision to create a better and healthier every day for every woman, Organon also launched the Her Plan is Her Power initiative, a three-year, 30-million-dollar grant aimed at preventing 120 million unintended pregnancies.
In Thailand, Organon partnered with key stakeholders such as the Ministry of Public Health, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, academia, international organizations and NGOs, to expand access to contraception.
PepsiCo
Gender inequality remains a major barrier to building a sustainable food system. Research indicates that if female farmers had equal access to resources, they could increase their yields by 20–30 %, potentially reducing global hunger by 150 million people.
To address these challenges, PepsiCo and CARE launched the She Feeds the World program in Thailand, empowering women and fostering community resilience. The program provides women with agricultural tools, training, and land rights, increasing their productivity economic independence. It improves community nutrition by leveraging women’s enhanced farming capabilities, enabling them to improve farm yields and address local food insecurity. SFtW focuses on three change pathways: increasing young farmers’ access to resources, inclusive markets, and supporting women’s empowerment.
Project will reach over 140,000 beneficiaries from their comprehensive activities. An integral component of the program is the creation of 240 male champions within the community, who support gender quality and combat gender-based violence.
