AMCHAM Discusses the Private Sector’s Perspectives on Opportunities for Foreign Investment in Thailand

On November 7, 2022, AMCHAM President Jeff Nygaard, Executive Vice President of Operations and Technology for Seagate Technology, participated in an interview with NBT World for its television program Thailand Today, discussing the private sector’s perspectives on investment opportunities in Thailand at the National News Bureau of Thailand under the Public Relations Department. The President was also welcomed by Lt. Gen. Sansern Kaewkamnerd, the Director-General of the Public Relations Department.

Discussion during the interview focused on various factors contributing to Thailand’s competitiveness as a regional investment destination. These include the country’s strong logistic network and favorable geographical location; the sustainable power and water supply, which have been further improved by the government’s priority on the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model; a well-developed and established industry supply chain; the people with appropriate skillsets and education, especially those being supported by the government’s focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and English proficiency; and, lastly, strong support from the government, particularly the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), with its roles to provide attractive investment incentives to foreign investors and to act as a coordinating point among relevant government agencies working to address long-term inclusive and sustainable growth of the Kingdom.

Before the end of the interview session, the President shared his suggestion for foreign businesses considering to invest in Thailand, stressing the importance of connection, in which potential investors could reach out to AMCHAM to help connect them with the existing investors in the country to share knowledge and experience, or to help introduce the investors to the BOI to receive first-hand information on the government’s trade policies and investment benefits.

The program will be broadcast on the television channel NBT 2HD on November 10 at 11 pm.
