Economics & Trade

Mission: The Economics & Trade Committee aims to support a robust trade and investment policy environment and allow U.S. companies investing and operating in Thailand to continually improve their competitiveness, to increase market access with a level playing field, and to reduce or eliminate trade and investment barriers while promoting business relationships between the U.S. and Thailand and among ASEAN countries. The committee also provides analysis of macro-economic trends, and review of developments in key industrial and service sectors. 

2025 Highlights  

• Hosted a Member Luncheon with keynote speaker Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput, Governor of the Bank of Thailand (BOT), who shared
  insights on the BOT’s monetary policy and economic trends, as well as potential impacts of the new U.S. administration’s policies on Thailand’s economy.
• Jointly with the Customs & Excise Council, hosted a panel discussion on Trade & Tariffs: The State of Play at the March Member Luncheon.
• Panelists included former U.S. Congressman Ken Buck; Dr. Kirida Bhaopichitr of TDRI Economic Intelligence Service; and Paul Sumner
  of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
• Presented two follow-up video conferences, AMCHAM Business Today: The Tariff Edition, April and August, with Dr. Kirida Bhaopichitr and Paul Sumner speaking, followed by open discussion and knowledge sharing with members.
• Hosted a Member Luncheon with keynote speaker H.E. Akanat Promphan, Minister of Industry, who provided insights on Thailand’s
  industrial transformation strategy, and the government’s vision for enhancing the country’s competitiveness on the global stage.
