IPEF Negotiating Round in Bangkok
On September 15, AMCHAM President Ornkanya (Mook) Pibuldham, AMCHAM Executive Director Heidi Gallant, and members participated in a roundtable discussion on the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) with the US delegation led by Sarah Ellerman, Assistant United States Trade Representative for Southeast Asia, and the Pacific and IPEF Pillar I Chief Negotiator, and Sharon H. Yuan, U.S. Department of Commerce Counselor, and IPEF Pillars II-IV Chief Negotiator. Co-organized by the American Association of the Indo-Pacific (AAIP), AMCHAM Thailand, and US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC), the meeting provided an opportunity for members to engage in an open discussion, gaining clarity and direction for the negotiation.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that IPEF upholds the diverse regulatory policies in the region and highlighted the importance of sharing priorities and best practices. The partner countries expressed their commitment to collaboration in order to achieve high standard outcomes. They also recognized that liberalization would set the foundation for further discussions.
