How to Make the Most of 2021’s Key Trends in Marketing

On March 25, to over 75 Members, AMCHAM’s Communications & Marketing Committee held the virtual event How to Make the Most of 2021’s Key Trends in Marketing. Communications & Marketing Committee Co-Chair John DaSilva introduced the speakers: Grace Clapham, Head APAC Community Partnerships, Facebook; Tom Yu, Vice President and Head of LazMall Crossboarder, Lazada; and Anuchida Iacharoen, Senior Executive Manager for LEGO, DKSH Thailand.

Committee Co-Chair John DaSilva started off the presentation by first going over a series of trends that the marketing community can expect to embrace over the next year. He spoke on the rise of influencers and brand advocacy as well as user generated content (UGC). He provided a few examples of UGC and commented on its effectiveness with consumers.

Grace Clapham then spoke on her experience at Facebook and the growing use of Facebook Groups to create a tighter sense of community among users. She detailed how Facebook has created academies and opportunities for people to be certified as community managers. This helps with customers exploring other marketing benefits from the platform.

Tom Yu followed Grace’s presentation with an overview of Lazada and its marketing trends in Thailand and Southeast Asia for the past few years. During 2020’s lockdown, Lazada saw a huge growth in Thailand and was able to create its own Lazada University to educate sellers on the most effective methods when utilizing the website.

The speaker portion of the event ended with Anuchida Iacharoen providing details on LEGO’s successful pivot to online marketing, as lockdown restricted the company’s more traditional form of selling to its target demographic. She noted how being able to take advantage of Lazada’s platform assisted with sales. The event ended with a robust question-and-answer session. Presentations are available on the AMCHAM Member Portal.
