HR Committee: How Environmental, Social & Governance Engagement Creates Value for Employees and Companies
On November 12, at the Novotel Ploenchit Hotel, AMCHAM’s Human Resources (HR) Committee hosted a presentation on How Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Engagement Creates Value for Employees and Companies. Guest speakers Paul Ark, Advisor, Gobi Partners; and Proud Limpongpan, Chief Sustainability Officer, Ennovie; shared insights on ESG and sustainability, recent trends, and why ESG should matter to companies.
Paul began his presentation with an overview on the concepts of ESG. He said that ESG principles protects not just the planet but also enhances lives of the people. He shared statistics from a study that showed 66 percent Americans would switch from products they typically buy to a new product from a purpose-driven company. ESG can range from having strong environmental standards, or advancing social issues, such as consciously hiring a diverse workforce, women into leadership roles or giving paternity leave to parents of a new-born. By adopting ESG standards, companies can commit to do more to actively contribute in a positive and profitable way. He highlighted that more and more companies today are aligning to the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals.
Proud spoke about the story of Ennovie and how its carbon emission reduction is the equivalent of planting 10 trees every day. She shared examples of how the company was embracing ESG at all levels. Both Proud and Paul further shared examples of multi-national companies that are driving sustainability in their business ethos by investing in sustainability technologies, instilling diversity from top to bottom, and advocating for sustainability on all fronts.
The presentation was followed by a question and answer session. Special thanks to HR Committee Leaders-Richard Jackson, RLC Recruitment Co., Ltd; Shaun Wong, Baker Tilly Thailand Ltd. (BTT); Christopher Schultz, DKSH; Sukkamon Sopachote, Ford; and Jarospong Suvaransuddhi, Agoda.
