What’s Happened to Cannabis?
On June 19 to over 20 attendees, AMCHAM's Food & Agri-Business Committee hosted a video conference titled What's Happened to Cannabis? The purpose of the video conference was to help members assess the situation regarding the cannabis industry in Thailand and gain insight into how the industry could be expected to develop from there. Food & Agri-Business Committee Co-Chair Alan Adcock, began the event with some background regarding the previous event before passing off to AMCHAM Board Governor, Jennifer Peng, who introduced the guest speaker. Dr. Attachai Homhuan is a Manager, Regulatory Affairs, at Tilleke & Gibbins. Dr. Atthachai assists chemical, life sciences, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology companies to draft and review their patent claims and specifications.
Dr. Attachai began his presentation with a brief overview of cannabis' history in Thailand and the effects it has on the body. He then moved onto to discussing the current laws regarding cannabis; breaking down each part of the statutes and their applicability to interested investors in the Kingdom. Dr. Attachai cited three pathways that parties could pursue depending on the end product they are hoping to produce before opening the floor to questions. The question and answer portion of the event was moderated by Alan Adcock. Attendees were interested in the distinction between CBD products and when foreigners could be more than ancillary participants in the cannabis industry.
The presentation and video from the event are available on the AMCHAM Member Portal.
