Monthly Luncheon: Head of Trade Negotiations Discusses ASEAN Partnerships

On June 28, AMCHAM had the pleasure of welcoming Auramon Supthaweethum, Director General of the Department of Trade Negotiations, to speak to AMCHAM members at the Chamber’s Monthly Luncheon at the Ramada Plaza Bangkok Menam Riverside. As Thailand recently hosted a successful ASEAN Summit two weeks ago as the Chair, Auramon continued the theme of “Advancing Partnership for Sustainability” in discussing the goals that Thailand has for the year during its tenure as the Chair of ASEAN.

The focus of the presentation was on Thailand’s Priority Economic Deliverables, which comprised of three tenets: equipping ASEAN in preparation for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, enhancing ASEAN’s connectivity through trade, and enabling sustainable economic development in ASEAN. As chair, Thailand is also calling for the conclusion of negotiations for the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). However, challenges concerning trade in goods and services as well as intellectual property rights are yet to be resolved.
