Shining a light on AMCHAM’s leadership
John DaSilva, Kenan Institute Asia
Co-Chair, Corporate Social Responsibility Committee
“I really believe in the AMCHAM community and the very positive role U.S. businesses and U.S. values can play in helping Thailand develop in a sustainable manner,” says John DaSilva, who has co-chaired the CSR Committee for the past three years. He first came to Thailand on vacation 15 years ago, and knew he would be back. He’s been at Kenan Institute Asia for a decade, starting as a senior consultant and now serves as Director of Corporate Engagement. Anyone who has attended AMCHAM’s CSR Excellence (ACE) Awards will immediately recognize him as the event’s unflappable master of ceremonies.
What’s the most rewarding thing about being a Committee Leader?
“Many AMCHAM member companies set a high standard for business ethics and integrity, and helping to recognize and promote these efforts is extremely rewarding to me.”
What was your best AMCHAM moment?
“Without a doubt, successfully running the revamped AMCHAM CSR Excellence (ACE) Awards for the first time in November 2016. It was a big undertaking and really tested my abilities as a new committee chair.”
What is the most valuable benefit of AMCHAM to you? And to your organization?
“Being able to promote Kenan’s values of sustainable business practices. AMCHAM helps us fulfil a part of our reason for existence: to engage the private sector and mobilize private sector resources and know-how to help promote inclusive social and economic development in Thailand and the region.”
What AMCHAM event do you look forward to the most, and why?
“Aside from my committee, I appreciate the HR Committee events. They have some great speakers who have given me good insights into organizational leadership in the local context.”
