Security Committee
Mission
The Security Committee aims to provide a monthly forum and networking structure for security professionals working in Thailand and Southeast Asia. The committee provides support to U.S. Small-Medium Size Enterprises (SME) and members of AMCHAM. The committee strives to put forth a monthly committee meeting to advance safety and security industry standards.
2009 Accomplishments
The Security Committee was able to sustain positive numbers in our attendance. The INTERPOL was introduced to the Security Committee for the first time, relating their responsibilities on international crime and its impact on businesses here in Thailand. The U.S. Embassy’s Regional Security Officer, (RSO) Randall Bennett, through the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC), lectured on terror incidents abroad that impacted the hotel industry and tourism for Thailand.
2010 Objectives
Main Deliverables
- The Security Committee has identified a number of topics deemed of consequence to its members, though, early on, will try to expand/amend these subjects through the use of a survey from its members/guests.
- The main objective of the Security Committee for 2010 will be to re-focus events based on the needs of the members rather than directing from the pulpit.
Top Issues
- At present, there is only the beginning of talks within the Thai government on certification of security companies. This is primarily aimed at guard companies, though such certification may extend to consultancies or other security-related firms in the future. As a consequence, there is no single point for advocacy to be stressed at this stage.
