Professional Women Committee

MISSION

The Professional Women Committee (PWC) provides an opportunity for career women to meet and discuss the special challenges and issues that affect their work and lifestyle. Meetings are intended to give members special insights on a wide range of social, business and personal topics. As in previous years, the eclectic range of events offered in 2011 provided diverse topics, many of which were intended to appeal to all AMCHAM members and not just women.

2012 ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Highlights of monthly events included presentations by guest women speakers who focused on their careers and professional experiences. Before leaving her post in Bangkok, Cynthia Griffin, Commercial Counselor for the U.S. Embassy shared her experiences in a talk entitled “Expecting the Unexpected.” An interesting talk by Desiree Koetzle based on her experiences working for a Minnesota congressman gave an insiders’ look at U.S. politics behind-the-scenes. Spa Director Jessica Shea, who opened the new St. Regis hotel spa, shared her background and career experiences and invited participants for memorable individual spa experiences. Jointly organized with the Marketing Committee, PWC participated in a presentation by Wannipa Bhakdibutr, Vice President, Health and Beauty Aids, Unilever Thai Trading Ltd who spoke about “Marketing to Thai Women.”

One of the most unique events organized by PWC was a “Be Your Own Bodyguard” training session conducted by Aaron Le Boutiller, who regularly conducts safety courses for airlines, corporations and business executives. Another year highlight was an event held at the Water Library restaurant in Chamchuri Square. PWC and other AMCHAM members were the guests of publishing entrepreneur and restaurant owner Pote Lee who talked about the challenges of convincing Thais that American are as good as European wines. The event included tasting some excellent American wines and delicious hors d’oeuvres from the restaurant’s menu. On another occasion PWC members were also invited to enjoy wines at the popular Central Wine Cellar event.
